Alumni Tell Us We Are Accomplishing Our Mission

Cynthia Tweedell, Ph.D., Asst. Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness

Ohio Christian University prepares students to serve effectively in the church and society by providing a holistic, Christ-centered, biblically integrated education in the Wesleyan tradition.

How do we know we are accomplishing this mission?  Ohio Christian University has been systematically assessing its effectiveness for over ten years.  Starting with the University mission statement (quoted above), departments develop goals and criteria to assess the accomplishment of these goals.   This means faculty and staff must determine if students are learning what they will need to “serve effectively in the church and society.”  What better way to assess this than to ask our graduates?

We annually conduct an alumni survey of our graduates who are one, three and five years past graduation.  It is always reassuring to hear the positive comments from alumni whose lives have been changed by their OCU experience.

Nearly all graduates (82%) are employed and nearly 40% have pursued graduate work.  Most who are not employed are full time students, missionaries or homemakers.  Many graduates are working in missions, pastoral care and counseling.  They greatly appreciate their OCU experience which prepared them for such service.

Graduates give high praise to professors.  They appreciate the care and personal attention they were given and the strong Biblical teaching.  Here’s some summary comments:

OCU will always hold a special place in my heart. I was able to grow spiritually and intellectually while at OCU. I'm proud to have graduated from Ohio Christian University and I look forward to how God will continue to use OCU to train young men and women for God's Kingdom.

Throughout the program (Bachelor & Masters) I felt that the curriculum was very strong. Most of the books were excellent textbooks and most of the instructors superb. OCU helped me reach my goal of perfecting my Christian beliefs and being able to articulate effectively whether in person or in writing.

OCU is truly a Christian University for the millennium.

You have been a blessing to me and my faith, keep up the good work.

Keep up the awesome job of Christian education
